Tour Leader Profile: James Kydd

James is a member of the Field Guides Association of South Africa and is the creator and editor for rangerdiaries.com. He is passionate about photography, tracking predators, storytelling, and re-connecting people to the natural frequencies of the wild.

 

Born in the Midlands of England James arrived in South Africa at the age of six, and soon afterwards was in love with the continent of Africa and determined to become a safari guide. “I felt like Max in Maurice Sendak’s 'WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE'”.

 

James spent as much time as he could in the Kruger National Park, and after school completed his BSc in Zoology and Nature Conservation. He started guiding in 2002 in the Waterberg, and then spent 6 years guiding at Londolozi Private Game Reserve where he held the position of Assistant Head Ranger.  

 

James recently moved to Cape Town  to enjoy its natural wonders  “It's a phenomenal city for a nature lover... you can be two kilometers from the city bowl and watching the sunrise from the top of a mountain, or kayaking with a pod of dolphins.”

  

James is a member of the Field Guides Association of South Africa and has obtained the highly esteemed level three qualification. James is the creator and editor for rangerdiaries.com.
