Tanzania - Serengeti Migration & Ngorongoro Crater 2012

As you may well be aware of the beauty of the Ngorongoro Crater, picture the scene... It's about 8am, it had been raining all night, but had stopped about 15 minutes earlier, we had entered the crater, dropped through the clouds, past the rain forest crater edge, everything is glistening after the rain, all clean and fresh, then as the trees cleared and the crater base comes into view, we the round the corner and are surrounded by yellow flowers, the sun breaks through a cloud, the Zebra crossed the red dirt road, it looks back at us, as the rainbow is formed straight over its head............I got about 5 pictures off. Awesome, you couldn't dream it up......

Let me just say that the trip amply fulfilled our expectations.  Gavin was an outstanding trip leader, as were the local guides/drivers. Gavin was an excellent guide, and we really appreciated his knowledge and insights into the animals and their behaviour as well as his birding skills.  The local guides were excellent, too, especially Steven in Tanzania – he was outstanding, really knowledgeable and enthusiastic.  Altogether an excellent trip, and a good group of participants.

I would (and will!) highly recommend this tour, my expectations were well exceeded. I think the value for money of the tour was excellent.  I really appreciated all the effort Gavin put in to ensure that we all had a good time on this tour. It was obvious that he is well trained (hospitality as well as birds and wildlife) and takes the role and responsibility of being a guide seriously. His sense of humour added to the experience. The drivers in both Kenya and Tanzania were great as well! Friendly, professional, and patient with great skill at spotting wildlife.

Extremely satisfied and "WOW" best describes our marvellous African adventure. Fraser made the trip a wonderful experience. His in-depth knowledge and insights into all aspects of mammals, birds, history, geology, bioversity, etc made each day an exciting, memorable event. When we next return, we would definitely want Fraser as our guide. After the first day, we became a little concerned regarding the arduous travel schedule and number of one night stays; however, Fraser's persona made it all work. Looking back, the itinerary (even though there were some long drive days) was perfect for a first experience of Africa. Our driver/guide, Geitan, provided a superb bonus feature. In addition to being a gifted driver, he was knowledgeable, alert, personable and a perfect match with Fraser. I can imagine extreme difficulties associated with six people together in a land cruiser for 15 days, but in this case it all worked well. Accommodations and meals were well above what we expected. The Serena lodges were excellent, but we enjoyed the extra space provided in the Sopa lodges. The setting and newness of the Samburu Simba made it the best even with the lack of ventilation in the bathroom. This was a great first experience with the INDRI organization.
